Bei der Cisco Catalyst 3560-Serie handelt es sich um eine Reihe von Switches der Enterprise-Klasse mit fester Konfiguration, die IEEE 802.3af und Cisco Pre-Standard Power over Ethernet (PoE) Funktionalität in Fast Ethernet- und Gigabit Ethernet-Konfigurationen enthalten. Dies sind ideale Access Layer Switches für LAN-Zugang in kleinen Unternehmen oder für Filialen. Indem sie 10/100/1000- und PoE-Konfigurationen kombinieren, um maximale Produktivität und Investitionsschutz zu erreichen, ermöglichen sie die Implementierung von den Anwendungen wie IP-Telefonie, Wireless-Zugang, Videoüberwachung, Gebäudemanagementsystemen und Remote-Videokiosken.
Der Cisco Catalyst 3560 ist entweder mit dem Softwareimage IP Base oder IP Services verfügbar und kann auf das Advanced IP Services Softwareimage hochgerüstet werden. Die IP Base Software genannt, umfasst leistungsstarke QoS, Rate-Limiting, ACLs sowie grundlegende Routing- und IPv6-Funktionalität. Die IP Services-Software bietet eine breitere Palette von Funktionen der Enterprise-Klasse, wie fortgeschrittenes hardwarebasiertes IP Unicast und IP Multicast Routing sowie Policy-based Routing (PBR).
